About the Album
25 is the third studio album by English singer-songwriter Adele. Released in 2015, the album followed the enormous international success of 21 and presented Adele from a different stage of her personal and musical life.
The album is centered on reflection. Rather than focusing exclusively on the immediate aftermath of a relationship, many of its songs look backward at earlier experiences, decisions and relationships from a more mature perspective. Themes of memory, regret, reconciliation, motherhood and the passage of time appear throughout the project.
“Hello” opens the album with a dramatic piano-led arrangement and establishes several of these ideas. The song approaches the past from a distance, using the attempt to reconnect with another person as a way of exploring regret and unresolved emotion.
Musically, 25 maintains Adele’s emphasis on voice and songwriting while using a broader range of production styles. Piano ballads and restrained arrangements sit alongside songs with fuller pop and soul production. This variety allows the album to move between intimate moments and larger, more dramatic performances without losing its central emotional character.
Adele worked with several songwriters and producers during the project, but her vocal performance remains the album’s most recognizable element. The arrangements frequently create space around her voice, allowing changes in volume, tone and phrasing to carry much of the emotional weight.
25 became another major chapter in Adele’s career and received significant commercial and industry recognition. It also reinforced the album-oriented approach that distinguishes her catalog: each major studio project is associated with a particular age, period of life and emotional perspective.
Within Adele’s discography, 25 connects the heartbreak and relationship-focused writing associated with 21 with the more reflective personal themes she would later explore on 30.
