About the Album
*One Thing at a Time* is the third studio album by American country singer Morgan Wallen, released on March 3, 2023. The expansive 36-song project followed his 2021 album *Dangerous: The Double Album* and represents a broad exploration of the different musical influences that have shaped Wallen’s career.
The album combines contemporary country songwriting with elements of alternative music, rock, pop and hip-hop. Rather than maintaining one sound across all 36 tracks, the project moves between reflective country songs, relationship-focused material and recordings built around more modern rhythmic production.
“Last Night” became one of the album’s most recognizable songs. Its conversational approach to a troubled relationship, combined with restrained production and a memorable melody, helped the recording connect with listeners beyond the traditional country audience.
The project also includes “You Proof,” “Thought You Should Know,” “Thinkin’ Bout Me” and “Cowgirls.” These songs demonstrate different sides of Wallen’s contemporary country style, ranging from personal storytelling to more energetic crossover-oriented production.
Several guest artists appear across the album. Eric Church joins Wallen on “Man Made a Bar,” HARDY appears on “In the Bible,” and ERNEST features on “Cowgirls.” These collaborations connect the project with other prominent voices in contemporary country music.
*One Thing at a Time* also incorporates musical references outside conventional country. “Everything I Love” interpolates The Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider,” while “180 (Lifestyle)” incorporates material associated with the hip-hop song “Lifestyle.” These choices reflect the range of influences Wallen brought into the project.
Joey Moi served as the album’s primary producer. Selected recordings also received additional production contributions, helping the project move between traditional country instrumentation and contemporary studio production.
With 36 tracks, *One Thing at a Time* was designed as a large-scale project rather than a narrowly focused album. Its combination of country storytelling, collaborations and crossover production makes it an important release in Morgan Wallen’s discography.
