Vanessa Bosåen has officially announced that she is stepping down as President of Virgin Music Group UK, bringing an end to a six-year journey that helped shape the company’s growth into one of the world’s leading independent music services businesses.
Bosåen shared the news with staff on August 20, later publishing the announcement on LinkedIn. In her farewell message, she reflected on the company’s remarkable transformation since its launch.
“After six unforgettable years, the time has come for me to share that I’ll be leaving Virgin Music Group.”
Her departure comes just months after Virgin Music Group completed its $775 million acquisition of Downtown Music Holdings and unveiled a new global leadership structure led by Co-CEOs JT Myers and Nat Pastor. Under the new European organization, Nick Roden was appointed President while Liz Northeast became Senior Vice President and General Manager. Bosåen has not revealed her next career move or named a successor.

Building Virgin Music UK From the Ground Up
Bosåen joined Universal Music Group in 2021 to lead the newly launched Virgin Music Label & Artist Services UK, following the rebranding of Caroline and Caroline International. Before joining UMG, she founded Regent Street Records in 2014 after spending more than 15 years as a touring musician.
Looking back on the company’s early days, Bosåen recalled starting with only a small team but a clear vision.
“When I joined at the inception of Virgin Music UK, there were only a handful of us with a big ambition: to build a truly modern music company that put artists, labels and entrepreneurs first.”
She said watching that vision evolve into today’s global Virgin Music Group has been one of the greatest achievements of her career.
Celebrating Major Artist Successes
During her tenure, Virgin Music UK played a key role in the success of numerous internationally acclaimed artists and independent acts.
Among the highlights Bosåen mentioned were:
- Rema and Selena Gomez’s worldwide smash hit “Calm Down.”
- D-Block Europe’s continued rise in British rap.
- Beabadoobee’s international breakthrough.
- Self Esteem’s critically acclaimed success.
- Melanie C’s ongoing solo career.
- UK No.1 albums by The Lottery Winners.
- Emerging artists including The Royston Club and Dove Ellis.
- Dance music successes from Tobiahs and ANOTR.
- Partnerships with legendary artists including Underworld, James Blake, Van Morrison and Peter Gabriel.
She also highlighted the opportunity to work with global stars such as BTS, Joan Jett, Kings of Leon, LL COOL J, Clairo, David Kushner, Bad Omens, and classical musician Timothy Ridout.
A Message of Gratitude
In her farewell note, Bosåen thanked colleagues, artists, managers and business partners who supported Virgin Music UK’s journey over the past six years.
She emphasized that the relationships built throughout her career meant more than the commercial achievements.
“The hardest part of leaving is, without question, saying goodbye to the people.”
Bosåen described helping build Virgin Music Group from the ground up as one of the defining experiences of her professional life and said she is excited for the next chapter while remaining proud of everything the team accomplished together.
Although her future plans remain undisclosed, her leadership leaves behind a lasting impact on Virgin Music Group UK and the wider independent music industry.
